The name Genalguacil comes from Arabic and means "The Garden of the Caliph." Today, the village is known not only for its gardens but also for the artworks scattered throughout its streets.
The hike through chestnut groves and green valleys is pleasant and easy, with only a short, steep uphill section at the beginning. We take our time to explore the sculptures throughout the village and enjoy the unique atmosphere of this special place.
Since 1994, every two years in August, Genalguacil hosts an art event called "Encuentros de Arte" (Art Encounters), where local and international artists come together to share ideas and create works using natural and local materials. These sculptures remain in the village, contributing to its rich cultural heritage.
The tour includes a circular hiking route in the surrounding area, followed by about one hour in the village to explore the artworks. Afterwards, there’s time to enjoy some typical tapas featuring local specialties.
