EXPLORER TOUR Pilas de Tunio - Pico Palo - Llanos de Líbar
PLEASE NOTE THIS IS A EXPLORER TOUR, NOT A REGULAR TOUR:
Explorer tours are new routes I am trying out for the first time, this means I am following a route I have on my hiking GPS, route descriptions and all the info to be able to do this tour.
But unlike all my regular tours, I have not done it myself yet. There is a chance we might do some kilometeres more, there might be parts we cannot do, or unexpected obstacules. But you still have a guide, transport, insurrance and most likely a great time, but you need a bit of an adventure spirit.
EXPLORER TOURS ARE ALWAYS SPECIFIED AS SUCH AND ALL OTHER TOURS ARE WELL KNOW TOURS
Hiking to the "Rock Face Tunio" and down to the plains of Líbar
From the village of Montejaque we drive a little further up by car on a dirt road. From there begins the hike up to the rock and the stone basins of Tunio. This path is easy to manage, only the descent to the "Llanos de Líbar" is long, constant and we walk over rocky areas without a clear path.
The stone basins of Tunio were hewn into the rock to gain ice, the water in the pools, that froze during the night frosts, was used as ice blocks for cooling until the early 20th century. The view from up there is spectacular and the rock formations are impressive. The last part of the hike over the Llanos de Líbar is easy and very nice.
