Torrecilla - Full Moon Night hike
An extraordinary and unforgettable experience. We walk up to the highest peak of the Sierra de las Nieves in the moonlight and spend the night up there to watch the sunrise and the moon set
We start hiking up to the mountain on Wednesday the 2nd of September at 22:00, using headlamps for the part we walk through the forest, but once we are out of the forest, we can walk by the bright moonlight to the top of Torrecilla, it gets almost as clear as in the daytime.
Torrecilla is the highest peak of the Sierra de las Nieves with 1919m above sea-level. About 4 hours. There is a flat part near the peak, where we spend the night in our sleeping bags under the stars.
Next morning we get up early to see the sunrise and the moon set at the same time. It is one of these goose bumps moments you don't live every day. The views up there are specatuclar, on clear days you can see from Sierra Nevada to the coast of Cadiz, the Rif mountains in Africa and the Strait of Gibraltar.
After breakfast we walk back down to the car, about 3 hours.
