El Santo of Pizarra - circular hiking route
Hike from the village of Pizarra through a pine forest and an interesting rocky landscape to a viewpoint and back over country lanes
The ascent to El Santo, the statute of "The Saint", which reminds us of the statue of Christ the Redeemer, the famous landmark in Rio de Janeiro, leads over a very well-defined route through a rather unusual landscape, marked by sandstone rocks that stand out among the pines. In between, windows open up to the valley of the Guadalhorce river and to the villages at the foot of the Sierra de las Nieves with its highest peak, Torrecilla. View and wooden benches in the surroundings of the statue invite you to a rest. The return path leads over a country road that is no longer drivable, over terraces with almond trees, specially wonderful when blooming in January.
Once back in the village, we can still take the time for some typical tapas.
